Workshops

I have given countless workshops on philosophy, mobility, arm balancing & handstands, anatomy, meditation and have been a guest speaker to many teacher trainings on a wide variety of subjects related to yoga.

A few Examples...

Presentation title : The Intellect: Avidya (Ignorance) & Asmita (Ego) : All obstacles in our path are not external, they are internal.

Description: From Tadasana to Hanumanasana, the pelvis is the magnetic centre (Spanda) for all standing postures.  With a strong mind, we learn to release emotions and face our limitations.  We must create boundaries to frame each pose in order to surpass them.  From our toes to our torso, understanding these alignment principles will help find imbalances in the joints (we all have them) so we can know how to proceed and progress in our practice. Don't let Avidya (ignorance) or Asmita (Ego) bring you astray in your path.

Relevancy to the topic category and conference theme of continuing education: This workshop is based on the Sutras 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 & 2.6 and is of a practical nature.  The goal is to understand the Intellectual level of the causes of suffering (Kleshas) through the experience.  This is designed for teachers and dedicated practitioners that wish to better understand the approach to the practice of Yoga.

Detailed Outline of your presentation conforming to a 2-hour time slot:

-A brief lecture on the fundamental approach to the practice, designed to shed light on the reasons why we sometimes plateau in our practice

-The hips: anatomy and alignment principles

-A progressive sequence of asanas (postures) to warm up the body

-The peak posture and fun variations (beginner, intermediate and advanced)

-Meditation

Handouts: No handouts will be given.  The goal is to understand the Sutras through the experience of the postures. Students may take notes during the lecture but will be recommended to put their note books aside during the practice.

Presentation title: The Emotions & Instincts : Dvesa (aversion) & Adhinivesha (fear) : All obstacles in our path are not external, they are internal.

Description: From Bhujangasana to Urdhva Dhanurasana and Beyond! Both the pelvis and the heart are the magnetic centres of almost all backbends.  Courage must be cultivated to align both these centres and the breath sustains it. A deeper understanding of the shoulders (the most vulnerable joint in the body), thoracic and scapula integration will guide you safely through your backbends and will empower you to open your heart.  Fear is a tool, let’s learn how to use it and avoid Dvesha (Aversion).  In the seat of reason, Adhinivesha (Fear of Death) is eradicated.

Relevancy to the topic category and conference theme of continuing education: This workshop is based on the Sutras 2.8 & 2.9 and is of a practical nature.  The goal is to understand the Emotional and Instinctive levels of the causes of suffering (Kleshas) through the experience.  This is designed for teachers and dedicated practitioners that wish to better understand the approach to the practice of Yoga.

Presentation title: Pleasure & Attachment : Raga (Attachment) : All obstacles in our path are not external, they are internal.

Description: From Hasta Bandha to Adho Muhka Vrksasana, the heart and the throat are the magnetic centres of inversions.  Fear can be debilitating and often stop us from reaching our potential.  A quick recap of shoulder alignment (seen more in depth in previous workshop), wrist stability and core integration are the focus of this energizing practice.  A slow and progressive approach is a must in order not to fall in the trap of Raga (attachment).  Lets have fun.

Relevancy to the topic category and conference theme of continuing education: This workshop is based on the Sutra 2.7 and is of a practical nature.  The goal is to understand the Emotional and Instinctive levels of the causes of suffering (Kleshas) through the experience.  This is designed for teachers and dedicated practitioners that wish to better understand the approach to the practice of Yoga.
